Book Review: The Honest Truth by Dan Gemeinhart

Hi!  I read this book almost a week ago, but I wanted to write a review on it before I do one on another great book by Dan Gemeinhart called The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise.

Why did I even read this book in the first place?

I read this book because my teacher told me it was a great book and that I should read it, and I’m so glad that I did!

Summary

Mark, a 12-year old, is just your average 6th grade boy – he has a dog, he likes photography and writing poems – except for the fact that he is sick, cancer sick.  So sick that he gets tired of it and just decides to run away with his dog to climb Mt. Ranier.  He’s planning on journeying almost all the way across Washington state to get there, and has no clue how he’ll do it – or whether he’ll ever get back home to his family and friends.

Why do I like/dislike this book?

I absolutely loved this book!  I liked it so much that I actually finished it in one night.  I loved that it pulled me in so fast, and how it kept me reading (I couldn’t put it down!).  This book was so sad and heartwarming at the same time… I love books like that!  I definitely can’t wait to read some of his other books, such as Scar Island, Good Dog, and The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise.
