Hey! I wanted to do this book review because I think this is a great book and it definitely deserves a great review. I hope that, after reading through my review, you will want to read it too and love it as much as I do!
Why did I even read this book in the first place?
I read this book because I read The Honest Truth, by the same author, Dan Gemeinhart, and, well, if you read one of his books, you just have to read another!
Summary
This book is about a girl named Coyote. Her mom and two sisters died in a car accident 5 years ago, and now her dad, Rodeo, is trying his best to avoid their hometown – by selling their house, buying an old school bus, and trying to make it their home while driving all around the U.S. Yeah, crazy. I know. But it gets better; One day, during her weekly call to her grandmother in Washington, Coyote finds out that a park near her old home is being ripped up to make room for a road extension. No big deal, except for the fact that a memory box is there. Not just any memory box, but one that Coyote buried with her mom and two sisters five days before they died, and she must get it.
Now, Coyote needs to trick Rodeo into taking her to Washington to get her box back – without him knowing. On the way there, they meet unexpected friends and fellow travelers; Lester, who needs to get to his girlfriend, Salvador Vega and his mom Esperanza, who are looking for a better life, Val, who just needs to be herself, and, well, Gladys, too.
Why do I like/dislike this book?
I definitely loved this book! I really liked it because it shows that Coyote needed to get something that was very special to her, so she persisted, and on the way, made new friends that helped Coyote throughout her remarkable journey across the U.S. She showed courage and was also willing to sacrifice much-needed time to help her friends. Katherine Applegate, another great author – the author of Coyote’s favorite book, The One and Only Ivan – said that “Sometimes a story comes along that just plain makes you want to hug the world. The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise is Dan Gemeinhart’s finest book yet — and that’s saying something. Your heart needs this joyful miracle of a book.” I definitely agree with her, and not just because I’m in the progress of reading her book, Wishtree, which, by the way, is great, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who’s looking for a book to read…
Ok. I got a little off track, but if you want a fantastic book to read, get The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise, by Dan Gemeinhart!
Recommended for fans of books that are super heartwarming and, as Katherine Applegate would say, “make you want to hug the world.”
