Hello! Today I’m doing a review on the book Ghost by Jason Reynolds, because it was a great book and I would defintely recommend it to anybody who’s bored and needs a book to read…
Why did I even read this book in the first place?
I read this book because so many people in my class have read it – and loved it – and recommended it to me and others in our class.
Summary
This book is about a boy named Castle Cranshaw (a.k.a. Ghost), who has been running from (not for) his life since the night when his dad started shooting at him and his mom. He’s never run for a team before, though – until he challenges the Defenders’ fastest runner to a race, and gets accepted into the team.
Ghost is definitely not the best behaved kid at his school, and has had quite a few mess-ups, or ‘altercations’, as his principal calls them. He can’t afford to have another one, but he gets into some big trouble towards the middle of the book, and if you want to see what happens as a consequence to this, I guess you’ll have to read the book!
Why do I like/dislike this book?
I really liked this book; it was very well-written, and the author actually ends the book as a cliffhanger, in the middle of a race, which really encouraged me to read the next book, Patina (which was just as great as Ghost). This was a pretty quick read, at 192 pages, so I finished the series in about a week. I’m not a big sports fan, and I really did enjoy this book, despite that, so you don’t need to know a lot (or anything) about track to understand these books.
Recommended to fans of sports books that have a much bigger meaning.
